Chris Christie's staff planned to use artifacts from the World Trade Center after the attacks on September 11 to curry political favor and bolster Christie's presidential run, former aide David Wildstein testified according to the New York Times.

The disgraced former New Jersey Governor and Republican presidential wannabe is back in the news as his former top aide testifies in the New Jersey bridge scandal case.

"Just to be clear, at some point hundreds of flags flown over the WTC will find their way to VFW's all through Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina," David Wildstein wrote in a September 2012 email to the governor's chief of staff Bill Stepien.

Wildstein was asked to explain the meaning of his note in federal court on Friday. "I was conveying to Mr. Stepien that the flags that could be used to the governor's political advantage in New Jersey could be used in those three states," he said.

Wildstein and Stepien were the two major players who came up with the scheme to close lanes on the George Washington Bridge near Fort Lee, NJ to punish the city's mayor for not endorsing Christie when he ran for reelection.

This latest revelation is just another example of politics at its worst (Christie's specialty) this time, using historical artifacts from a national tragedy to curry favor in early primary states.

The timing of this trial, which is ongoing, is also interesting to note. Had Christie actually won the Republican nomination, all of this information would have come at the worst time for a presidential campaign: with just a month left until the general election.

It shows, if nothing else, Christie's complete disregard for the victims of September 11 and his willingness to win at any cost, with absolutely no foresight for future consequences.
