At this point, there's not really anything shocking that can happen in American government. These are the days when SNL sketches look more like accurate dramatizations of Donald Trump speeches than satire. Thus, a Congressman using Stranger Things as a metaphor for Trump's administration is honestly not surprising at all.

On the House floor Thursday, David Cicilline of Rhode Island began his speech with, "Mr. Speaker, like the main characters in Stranger Things, we are now stuck in the Upside Down." He discussed former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn's alleged ties to Russia and Trump's Muslim ban. He continued:

Mornings might be for coffee and contemplation, but Chief Jim Hopper is not coming to rescue us. Like Mike, Lucas, Dustin, and Eleven, we must remain focused on the task at hand and hold this administration accountable so we can escape from our own version of the Upside Down.

We should applaud Cicilline's attempt to draw a wider audience to C-Span and get kids interested in government. And Cicilline even has a pretty good understanding of the show. He's gotta be a fan! He even used that cool Stranger Things font generator for his prop. But this isn't really the best comparison to use in this situation. Sure, Stranger Things is cool, but it would have been more accurate to compare this administration to popular works such as Children of Men or the last book of the New Testament.

Either way, keep fighting, Cicilline.
