Good news for those worried technology is turning us into a zombie parade of undignified narcissists: it looks like the selfie stick is finally dying.

John Lewis has reported a 50 percent dip in sales for the device, which quickly became visual shorthand for pathetic losers and an emblem of all that is wrong with the iPhone age.

That coupled with the fact certain attractions–notably the National Gallery and Wimbledon–have banned them altogether suggests the selfie stick could soon be consigned to the trashcan of terrible tech next to the mobile phone holster and the Bluetooth headset.

Soon the streets may be safe to walk once again.
